INS Sharda (Indian Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel) Visits Mauritius from September 13 to 15, 2023 – Indian Defence News

Port Louis, Mauritius – September 19, 2023: In a demonstration of India’s commitment to enhancing regional security and collaboration, the Indian Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel, INS Sharda, made an official visit to Port Louis, Mauritius, from September 13 to 15, 2023. This visit, marked by joint surveillance operations and professional exchanges, showcased the growing maritime partnership between the two nations.

Before entering the port of Port Louis, INS Sharda engaged in joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance activities with the Mauritius National Coast Guard (MNCG), highlighting the mutual dedication to safeguarding maritime interests in the region.

Upon its arrival, INS Sharda received a warm welcome from the Mauritius Coast Guard Dornier and the Mauritian Police Force Band, symbolizing the amicable relations between the naval forces. The visit included several professional interactions, cross-training visits, and a guided tour of the vessel for MNCG personnel, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the ship’s roles and capabilities.

Throughout the stay, personnel from the Indian Navy and MNCG engaged in training sessions, including topics such as firefighting, damage control, and small arms handling. The visit also featured a combined yoga session onboard the ship, fostering camaraderie and physical well-being among the participants.

Commanding Officer Cdr Navin Renj took the opportunity to meet with Mrs. K Nandini Singla, the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, and paid a courtesy call to the Commissioner of the Mauritius Police Force, further strengthening diplomatic ties between the nations.

Before departing on September 15, INS Sharda once again joined forces with MNCG units to conduct joint EEZ surveillance operations, enhancing maritime cooperation and reinforcing the commitment to regional security.

This visit by INS Sharda not only underscored the growing maritime partnership between India and Mauritius but also reaffirmed the Indian Navy’s dedication to the vision of ‘Security and Growth for All in the Region’ (SAGAR), as envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. The collaboration between the two nations in safeguarding their maritime interests is set to grow stronger in the years to come, bolstering stability and security in the Indian Ocean region.
